INTRODUCTION

Centre for Energy Studies came into subsistence from the academic year 2009 – 10.
Dr. D.Ravindran M.E., Ph.D., Professor and In-charge of centre for energy studies who has academic & Research experience for about 30 years, leads the center efficiently from the inception of the centre. The center is offering post graduate course in M.E. - Energy Engineering.
The Centre, as on date has five dedicated and experienced staff members with one doctoral degree holder and the remaining with PG qualifications.
The faculty members are actively engaged in research activities in the areas like Solar Thermal, Solar PV, Energy Storage, Bio-Energy and other Renewable Energy areas.
The Centre has a sanctioned intake of 18.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
To meet the energy requirements of the entire Campus by utilizing Renewable Energy Sources.
To provide adequate facilities for the budding researchers in the field of Renewable Energy.
To undertake research in solar thermal, solar PV and bio energy fields to improve the efficiency and economy of the systems.
FACILITIES
LABORATORIES
IC Engines lab with Computer interfaced engines, Gas analyzer and Fuel testing devices.
Heat Transfer Lab with Refrigeration and Air conditioning test rig and various testing equipments facilitates the students to gratify with the curriculum.
Boiler & Steam Turbines Lab with Vertical Fire tube Boiler and Steam Turbine assembly.
TRNSYS software package in Energy lab for energy simulation of Solar processes, thermal and other renewable energy processes.
Energy Simulation laboratory with solar simulators for performance study of different PV systems, battery charging and discharging characteristics, performance of the different solar thermal equipments like collectors, water/air heaters, solar drier, still etc. can be studied in the laboratory itself without getting affected by the seasonal variations.
Basic Research Facilities like Trough & Parabolic collectors, PV panel with different modules with and without tracking, Single & Multiple slope single & double basin Solar Stills, Solar Air heater, Solar water heater, Solar drier, tunnel dryer, cabin type drier, solar pond, PVT collectors and CPVT collectors at Energy Park for performance evaluation.
